ABOUT HUNGARY

This wonderful country brims with culture and natural beauty.  Budapest - one of the finest capitals in the world, Lake Balaton - Europe's largest freshwater lake, and numerous nature conservation areas await visitors, lovers of culture or nature alike. Those who seek rest and rejuvenation will turn to one of our many thermal spas, famous for their natural healing spring water.

Budapest

The area of the country is barely 100,000 km2.

Hungary does not regard itself as a Balkan or a Slavic country, and the Magyars who settled here from central Asia have always identified with western values. The languge itself is in the Finno-Ugrian family of languages. The folk songs bear no resemblance to those of other nations. Yet, the Hungarian people have been living in the centre of Europe for over 1,100 years. Despite frequent tragic upheavals which spared nothing and nobody, the country boasts a heritage that attracts people from far and wide. Citing the city's unparalleled panorama, UNESCO declared Budapest, Hungary's capital, "the Pearl of the Danube", a World Heritage site.

Although we have had plenty of unwelcomed visitors in the last 1000 years in the Carpathian Basin, now Hungary welcomes you with open arms!

Come take a tour, learn more about Hungarian history, culture and our way of live!

Spas in Hungary

After Iceland, Hungary has the world's largest reserve of surface thermal water: hundreds of springs help thousands in recovering. Lake Balaton, Central Europe's largest lake, is a favourite get-away for families with young children, fans of sailing and lovers of the beach.

Whether you just want to relax or you're looking for a gentle cure for a specific ailment, a spa with natural spring thermal water is a perfect vacation choice.

With little exaggeration, you could say that all you need to do is push a stick into the ground anywhere in Hungary and up would come thermal water, most likely with some kind of curative properties. The geological features of the Carpathian Basin are such that the earth's crust is very thin, so waters rise easily to the surface. Hungary is a land of more than 1,000 hot springs and enough spa facilities to accommodate 300,000 people at the same time! These spas are located in big cities and smaller towns throughout the country. Some are simple thermal baths serving the local community.

Thermal waters from different springs vary in terms of the ailments they benefit. Upon request, an individualized therapy plan will be developed, including relaxation therapy, body massage and mud packs. Then passive or active exercise is introduced. Nutrition is discussed and a customized dietary plan can be requested. After just one week, you should notice positive results. For maximum results, a three-week stay is recommended.

Hévíz

Héviz is a particularly enchanting spa resort. Bathers can enjoy the naturally warm 85-90 F water of its lake all year round, indoors or outdoors.

The natural thermal lake is the biggest of its kind in mainland Europe.

Our most poular hunting lodges are situated 20-30 minutes from the lake.

For visitors, a spa vacation in Hungary means the opportunity to experience a fascinating aspect of local social life, make contact with friendly people and relieve modern-day stress. Spa vacation and wellness packages, often at hotels with their own thermal baths, make this unique and typically Hungarian experience convenient and affordable.
