Hunting seasons in Hungary

When you plan your travel, please take into consideration the hunting seasons,                                    which differ for each type of game.

Red deer

RED DEER

 

Red deer stag is known as ’the king of Hungarian forests’. Their trophies are the antlers which the male replaces every year. The best time for stag hunting is the rutting season which usually begins during the first days of September and lasts 2-3 weeks. Stags can be shot from high seats or by stalking. You can take part in culling hunts from November till the end of January.  World-record trophies are shot in the South Western part of Hungary year by year.

Stag: 1 - September - 31- January

Hind, Calf, Fawn: 1 - September - 28 - February

Red stags up to 12 Kg during the season with guarantee. 

Roe Deer

ROE DEER

 

The Hungarian roe buck trophies belong to the best ones in the world. The hunting season begins on 15th of April. By this time the bucks have cleaned their antlers and they are still visible in the low vegetation. Mating begins from about mid July and lasts for 2-3 weeks. Roe deer can be hunted from high seat, by stalking and from horse carriage. Hunters can combine the roe buck hunting with wild duck and collared dove shooting or wild boar shooting on grain and stubble fields in the summer.

 

Buck: 15 - April - 30 - September

Roe doe, Fawn: 1 - October - 28 - February

Roe bucks with 250-500 gramm antlers with gurantee.

Best interval 15 April - 10 Mai and 25 July - 15 August. 

 

Fallow deer

FALLOW DEER

 

The trophy of the fallow deer is very popular among hunters becuase of its special shape. The male replaces his antlers every year. The best time for fallow deer hunting is October during the rut which is followed by the culling period from November to January. The best method of hunting for fallow deer is stalking.

 

Stag: 1 - September - 31- January

Hind, Calf, Fawn: 1 - September - 28 - February

Fallow bucks from 2,5 to 4,5 kg on average.


Wild Boar

WILD BOAR

 

The trophy of wild boar is the tusk. Can be hunted from high seat or by stalking. In autumn and winter the small drives for wild boar are very pleasant for 5-6 hunters. During this type of hunt doe, yearling and calf can also be taken. The high point of the wild boar hunting is the well organized driven hunt, with a large number of professional drivers, beaters, dogmen and boarhounds.

Male: all year

Sow: 1- July - 31 - January

Young pig:all year

Individual hunt during the whole year.  Driven shooting on certain dates. Great experience and quality guaranteed.

Mouflon

MOUFLON

 

The mouflon is hunted by stalking. The hunters must be in good condition to stalk on mountain terrain. The trophy is the horn. The length of the horn can be sometimes around 100 cm. The hunting season begins on 1. September but the best experience is stalking in the snow in November and December. The hunting of mouflon can be ideally combined with red deer culling and wild boar hunting during these months.

Pheasant

PHEASANT

 

Pheasant is commonall around Hungary. The collective hunting – which is held from October till January – is very popular among hunters. The most common way of hunting is the walking up hunting. Pheasant hunting can be combined with hare and duck shooting.

Hunters must be in good condition in order to be successful in hare hunting. The most popular hunting method is the search hunt but the most successful method is the circular drive with lots of hunters.
